What to Expect:

Your exciting daytrip starts with the journey from Barcelona to Girona. The capital of the north awaits you with its medieval city centre, whose history comes alive on a guided tour. Visit the cathedral and take a stroll through its winding streets, down to the riverbank with its famous pastel-coloured houses. Take your time and discover more of Girona’s cultural and artistic heritage or search for buildings and squares that have acted as setting in ‘Game of Thrones’.

Your bus brings you from here to the second highlight of the day, Montserrat Mountain, which rises majestically to 1,236 metres and overlooks the surrounding area. Thousands of years of wind and rain have given the sedimentary rocks their ragged forms, which today attract hikers and climbers. From the foot of the mountain go up to Montserrat Monastery by rack railway and enjoy the panoramic views during your 15-minute trip.
After arriving, visit the Benedictine abbey Santa Maria de Montserrat. Founded in 1025, it is famous for its image of the Virgin of Montserrat, a Romanesque statuette from the 12th century, which is better known as ‘La Moreneta’ (the black virgin). Take your time for an audio-guided visit of the exhibition centre, where you’ll learn more about the construction and history of the monastery and don’t miss a tasting of homemade liqueurs, produced by the monks of Montserrat.
